A Garden in Cookham

A large rural private family garden located near Cookham in Maidenhead.  The original concept design was first conceived by Vicky Wyer at Bowles & Wyer.  James subsequently undertook the detailed design stages, design development and tender process, through to completion on site.

The existing house was demolished and replaced by a new family home designed by James Lambert Architects, relocated in the centre of the plot.  The landscape design formed a key part of the project and planning process, helping to bed the building into the landscape.

Key design features include a curved and raking dry stone wall/path, linking spaces within the rear garden and punctuating a gabion ha ha, almost like a jetty, forming a link into the agricultural field beyond.

To  keep costs down and to reduce exporting material off site, large sculptural earth work mounds were created in the clients neighbouring field with new tree planting and an eye catcher sculpture designed especially for the site.

This project was designed whilst working for Bowles & Wyer
