A Hampstead Garden

A large private garden in Hampstead where the client demolished the existing house and replaced with a large new family home designed by SHH Architects, complete with basement and balcony terraces.

Bowles & Wyer were engaged to undertake the design of the scheme with a view to eventually building out on site.  Members of the design team started the design concepts, with James then taking the proposals forward into detailed design, ensuring the scheme was workable, and liaising carefully with the client throughout.

The client was particularly keen on planting and trees and was looking for a mature scheme.

James visited Bruns tree nursery in Germany to select a large number of new mature species with the client.  This ended up being one of the most enjoyable parts of the project with stunning results and specimens selected.

The planting scheme was designed with all of the seasons in mind, ensuring the client has something new to look at throughout the year.  Large Rhododendrons provide significant evergreen structure throughout.

In the front garden two stunning Japanese 'Taxus cuspidata' Bonsai trees take centre stage, underplanting with a sea of Liriope muscari.
