The Almshouse

A lovely country garden setting in the foothills of the Chilterns with stunning views and relaxing atmosphere.

James was approached by the clients to

re-design the garden spaces, with a particular focus on the main entertaining terrace and connecting the different areas of the garden.

Natural stone paving is proposed with a mix of limestone and brick pavers to complement the Grade II listed building.  Adequate space for an external kitchen, large parasols and lounge furniture ensure that small or larger gatherings are possible in any weather.

The client was keen to create separation and screening between the driveway and the garden spaces and this was achieved by the introduction of an evergreen Yew hedge in a curved shape to create flow and rhythm.

Generous and flexible areas of lawn and wildflower planting has been allowed for with new multi-stem and single stem trees proposed in key locations.

Other key features include corten steel retaining walls, Japanese style courtyard gardens, a water feature and fire pit terrace.

All plans and visuals produced by James.
